SENSE LAB #2: SOUND & PROPRIOCEPTION
Exploring sound and frequency, and its effect on our emotional and physical proprioception with Kari Schein and Nica Celly
Time & Location
Feb 04, 2024, 3:00 PM – 6:30 PM GMT-7
Panteon 19, Todos Santos BCS
About the event
In this Sense Lab, we are curious to see what happens when we focus on silence and sound, and tune into the frequency of our own voices, other's, and how we can connect the the audial spectrum around us, and how that can affect our understanding of space. We will call upon different exercises that are both solo and in companion with each other (so yes, light partner work) The experience will be nothing short of relaxing and slowing down into skillful exploration of our bodies, silence, and sound connection.
Gracias por su paciencia, la explicación en español llegará pronto.
Why we are doing this:
We spend a lot of time learning to connect with ourselves through contemplative practices on mats and cushions, and in our bodies as individuals. When interfacing with the world, our senses are often overwhelmed. By spending some time parsing out what sounds are coming in, which ones are going out, and taking a close look at how one's sound frequency can affect another, we hope to emerge with an increased aptitude for frequency and proprioception - where we are in space.
About the collaborating facilitators:
Nica Celly is an artist and designer who connects disparate practices to build a common understanding and equanimity across disciplines. She has been studying and practicing yoga (tantric Shaivist lineage, 500+ certified, nearly 1008 complete) for over 25 years, holds an MFA in textiles from California College of the Arts, and works across the fields of contemplative studies and mid-life established practitioners to connect mastery of their craft to emerging audiences. This is her fourth year returning to Todos Santos. (nicacelly.com, nicolemarkoff.com, yogacraft.org)
Kari Schein is a Katonah Yoga teacher and sound healer. Her work in education throughout her life has influenced her work now- to help people find fluidity, joy, and full expression in the bodies that they have and the voices that are waiting to emerge. She can be found teaching at Sal Y Sol, Aureo, and Cuatro Vientos, offers exquisite private and small group sound sessions that encourage exploration and reception. She also leads kirtan, and has lived in BCS for three years.
